That prompts the question: what is fiber laser marking? In simple terms, it's a non-contact process that uses a fiber laser beam to create a permanent mark on a surface. It's common for logos, serial numbers, and data matrix codes on metal and some plastics. It's not an inkjet printer. Once you define the job, then you can talk wattage. A 50 watt laser engraver might be right, or a 20 watt fiber marker might be enough.

2. Verify Specs Under Your Conditions

I went back and forth between the established vendor and the new one for two weeks. Established had a local service crew. New one was 25% cheaper. On paper, the savings made sense. But my gut said we'd lose too much control. Ultimately chose the established vendor because the project was too important to risk. That decision wasn't in the spreadsheet, but it was still a cost decision.

5. Compare Standard vs. Optional Components

6. Run a Proof Test Before Final Payment

7. Document Everything and Create a Review Process

We now require a one-page spec for every equipment purchase. It lists the model, the required performance at our conditions, and the acceptance criteria. If it's not on that page, it doesn't exist.
